This is a book about five people I consider heroes of psychological warfare. Their battles undoubtedly left scars, but they truly triumphed. The hero's mission is immortality and return. That is, the hero achieves perfection through a unique act of courage, through which he is reborn, to teach us—the young—the lessons he has experienced. This book is my way of paying tribute to these victorious heroes and depicting them as they recount their terrifying and fruitful tales, each of whom had to behead a different monster, each using a different weapon and a different war strategy. At first glance, these five may seem very different, but after peeling back the outer layers, we discover that their unconscious needs are surprisingly similar, and that we all need to feel loved to live a good life. What these five teach us is that each of us can be a hero. They show us how to delve deep within ourselves and shed light on our hidden aspects, discover what lurks in those dark corners, then pull it into the light, and finally confront it. They bravely journeyed and took uncharted paths in pursuit of change, reminding us that we can overcome our fears and break the self-imposed boundaries when we confuse entrapment with safety. Ultimately, they inspire us by showing us that every act of self-examination is courage. These brave individuals left an indelible mark on me during their time in therapy, and I hope their courage will inspire you as well.
